MIT study: generative AI fails to develop a coherent understanding of the world
Today's big models have a wide range of extraordinary abilities, from reciting poetry to generating efficient computer code, giving the illusion that they seem to "vaguely understand" some of the fundamental laws of the real world. However, a new study suggests that this may not be the case. Researchers found that a popular generative AI model was able to provide near-perfect step-by-step navigational guidance in New York City, but did not produce a truly accurate map. MIT Technology Review: Data is the foundation of generative AI
Pre-trained large language models (LLMs) such as GPT-4 and Gemini have attracted much attention from organizations, who are eager to use LLMs to build applications such as chatbots and co-pilots. According to a new report from MIT Technology Review, titled "AI Readiness of C-Level Leaders," a survey conducted on behalf of ETL vendor Fivetran found that scaling AI or GenAI is the "top priority" of 82% executives surveyed.
