Intel's chipmaking business lost billions last year
Intel's chip manufacturing division accumulated a $7 billion loss in 2023, up from a $5.2 billion loss in 2022. Although Intel achieved $18.9 billion in revenue in 2023, that figure is down 311 TP3T from last year's $27.49 billion. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger told investors that these losses are partly a consequence of Intel's past poor decision-making, which resulted in the chip manufacturing business having to outsource about 301 TP3T of its wafer production to other fabs such as TSMC, one of Intel's current competitors.
