California Approves Milestone AI Bill Requiring Protection of Actors' Digital Portraits
California has approved a landmark AI bill to protect actors' digital likenesses. Assembly Bill 2602, which will take effect on January 1, 2025, was signed into law by California Governor Gavin Newsom on Tuesday. The bill requires studios and other employers to obtain consent authorization before using "digital replicas" of performers, and Newsom also signed AB 1836, which grants similar rights to deceased performers, with studios needing to obtain permission from the estate before using their AI likenesses. ...
