Apple in talks to bring Gemini to iPhone

Mark Gurman reports that Apple is in talks to bring Google's big generative AI model Gemini to the iPhone.
The two companies are in active talks to get Apple a Gemini license to power some of the new features in this year's iPhone software, people familiar with the matter said. Apple has also held discussions with OpenAI to consider adopting its models.
Gurman also reports that Apple has been testing its own big language model, code-named Ajax, since early last year, and that some employees are also testing a chatbot called Apple GPT. But Apple's technology isn't as good as Google or other competitors, according to people familiar with the matter.
A few days ago, Apple's research team made public a multimodal model called 'MM1' with contextual learning, image recognition and some continuous reasoning.
Bloomberg also reported a few days ago that Apple acquired AI startup DarwinAI earlier this year.
