Microsoft Corp. on Monday announced a new partnership with French startup Mistral AI, considered the European version of ChatGPT developer OpenAI, by injecting 2 billion euros into the company. Under the agreement, Mistral's Large Language Models (LLMs) will be made available on Microsoft's Azure cloud computing platform, becoming the second company after OpenAI to host LLMs on the platform.
One X user posted: "I'm not going to lie; I'm sorry Mistral didn't open source any of their models. I thought they were on the OSS team." Another user retweeted Microsoft CEO Nadella's announcement of a partnership with Mistral AI and commented, "That's probably why." Musk responded, "Did Microsoft tell them to close source?"
