First AI Automated Underwater Vehicle (AUV) Begins Testing, Handles Tasks on Its Own, Reduces Inspection Time 50%

The world's first AI autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) is being tested at Seagreen, Scotland's largest offshore power station, a joint project of SSE Renewables, TotalEnergies and PTTEP, which is the world's deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm when it begins operations in late 2023. The AUV, from Beam in Aberdeen, Scotland, is planned to be rolled out to the entire offshore power station over the next few years, with full deployment expected in 2026. While traditional offshore wind farm inspections are time-consuming manual operations, the AUV can handle the task on its own, reducing inspection time by up to 50% and has already provided important data that will help ensure the long-term reliability of the wind farm. matthew Henderson of SSE Renewables highlights the safety and efficiency gains it will bring.
