Cohere releases developer toolkit to accelerate enterprise generative AI application development

Cohere Published aDevelopersA toolkit designed to speed up the process of building generative AI applications for the enterprise. The toolkit includes an open source repository that can immediately deploy applications on any cloud provider. It also includes components designed for "building unique applications and deploying them at scale."

“A core challenge in building AI applications is that developers need to integrate AI models, prompt templates, retrieval pipelines, and user interfaces with the associated backend code in a secure environment,” Cohere’s Elaine Gao and Beatrix De Wilde wrote in a post. The apps available in the Cohere toolkit can leverage the company’s Command, Embed, and Rerank models on Amazon Web Services, Azure, and Cohere, with additional models to be added later. The firstThe included applications are knowledge assistants based on RAG technology that should be able to quickly present information, automate tasks, and facilitate team collaboration.

Cohere also packaged source code for so-called plug-and-play components and chat user interfaces that let developers interact with the company’s Command R and R+ models, as well as tools to build efficient retrieval systems. Cohere said deploying an application requires only a few “simple” steps.

Gao and De Wilde explain that “developers simply point the code to where the model is and have a scalable application that can be deployed in their environment.” Applications can be customized, and developers can contribute new applications to the Cohere repository.

Releasing a toolkit will reduce the amount of planning and research that enterprise development teams may need to do. This strategy is similar to past platform-as-a-service providers such as Parse, Heroku, AWS Amplify, etc., which facilitate cloud and mobile app development. Cohere's strategy allows companies to spend more time on ideas and business processes instead of struggling to figure out how to implement AI applications.

Cohere's toolkit is available on the company's GitHub repository.
