Online Code Repository Hosting Platform GitLab arctic foxrecently announced the launch of its artificial intelligenceProgramming Assistant Duo Chat. The tool provides guidance in the form of natural language chat for both software engineers and non-engineers.

The Duo Chat assistant is available in the GitLab user interface and popular third-party IDEs, and users can extend the chat functionality with customizations.
GitLab says that developers spend 75% of their time on non-writing tasks, including understanding and improving existing code, maintaining and testing code, and more. While Duo Chat simplifies the burden of these tasks and improves productivity.
According to GitLab, the assistant was developed with privacy in mind and does not use customer data for model training; in addition organizations using Duo Chat can control their access to specific files.
Duo Chat is currently available to GitLab Premium and Ultimate customers for a single-user monthly subscription fee of $19 (currently about $138).
GitLab also plans to soon add model personalization and self-hosted model deployment to Duo Chat.
