According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, appleThe company is developing a device-basedLarge Language Models (LLM) to improve the responsiveness and privacy protection of upcoming generative AI features.
Gurman mentioned in his "Power On" newsletter that Apple's LLM will be the basis for the company's future generative AI capabilities. Unlike most cloud-based AI services today, all signs indicate that the model will run entirely on the user's device.
Because they run on the device, Apple's AI tools may in some cases be inferior to competing products that run directly in the cloud. However, Gurman pointed out that Apple can make up for this gap by licensing technology from other AI service providers such as Google. Last month, Gurman reported that Apple was in discussions with Google to integrate the latter's Gemini AI engine into iPhones running iOS 18.
Compared to cloud-based solutions,The main advantages of on-device processing are faster response times and better privacy protectionIt is reported that Apple's marketing strategy for artificial intelligence technology will focus on how it can actually help users improve their daily life efficiency, rather than simply emphasizing the powerful performance of the technology itself. More details of Apple's artificial intelligence strategy are expected to be announced at the WWDC conference in June, when the company will also showcase its major software update plans.
