OpenAI Announcing the closure of DALL-E2Image Generatorservice, and was replaced by its successor product DALL-E3.
DALL-E2 shot to fame soon after its release in April 2022 for its ability to generate high-quality images based on simple text prompts. A few months later, OpenAI rolled out its public beta to a wider user base, and things really began to flourish. But now it has been replaced by DALL-E3, a version that is similar to the ChatGPT Fully integrated, providing a simpler interface and producing better quality images. This was the main reason for the switch, but the warning signs were already there.
In ChatGPT, users only need to log in in one easy step, while DALL-E2 requires more clicks. Even using the OpenAI login page, you will not be redirected to DALL-E2. However, if you go to the DALL-E2 page today, you will see a message: "We no longer allow new users to use DALL-E2. DALL-E3 provides higher quality images, improved prompt compliance, and we have started to roll out image editing. It is available for ChatGPT Plus, Team and Enterprise, and OpenAI API."
Now, there's no text box to enter your hint. Clicking on your profile photo might reveal that your credit balance is zero, so you can't generate a new image.
OpenAI also issued a warning on its support page: "Starting February 21, 2024, DALL-E2 will no longer accept new customers. Free and paid users who have never had any credits (free or paid) cannot purchase credits. Users who have previously had credits (even if your current credits are 0) can still use it normally."
However, despite claiming that the change took place on February 21, the support page was only recently updated. Users cannot create new images in the DALL-E2 interface. Fortunately, it is still possible to view the history. But to be safe, you may want to download anything you particularly like.
