Another app that calls itself an “AI homework assistant,” Question.AI, also ranked third in Data.ai’s survey and is backed by Beijing-based online education service startup Zuoyebang. The overseas success of these education apps demonstrates the ability of some Chinese education technology companies to survive Beijing’s crackdown on the industry.
When Gauth was launched in 2020, it was originally called Gauthmath, initially covering only mathematics and providing live support from human tutors. In December last year, the app underwent a major revamp, introducing artificial intelligence technology and expanding the range of subjects covered. In addition to its success in the United States, Gauth has also been popular in Canada and the Philippines. The app advertises its ability to scan, solve and master all subjects, provide fast and accurate answers, and 24-hour online expert support for users to solve difficult problems.
Question.AI was launched last year and uses a chatbot similar to ChatGPT to interact with users and answer questions. In March this year, the app's most active users were from Indonesia and the Philippines, according to Diandian data.
