Adobe today announced that it is adding a series of powerful features powered by generative artificial intelligence to its professional video editing software, Premiere Pro, with new features that will help video editors do their jobs more efficiently.
Thanks to a new artificial intelligence feature called Generate Extensions, Premiere Pro will be able to add extra frames to video clips, making it easy for editors to adjust the duration of scenes and add smooth transitions, such as extending the frame of a scene. Additionally, the Smart Selection and Tracking tools make it easy to add or remove objects from the video, which Adobe says can be used by video editors to remove unwanted elements, such as clutter in the frame, or to change the actors' virtual outfits, or even add decorations to the scene, such as paintings on the wall or potted plants on the table.
One of the most exciting features in this update is "Text to Video" feature. With this feature, users can generate brand new video clips with text descriptions or upload reference images directly in Premiere Pro. The generated clips can be used for a variety of purposes such as making B-roll, creating storyboards, and more.
Adobe plans to launch these generative AI tools later in 2024.
It's worth noting that Apple's Final Cut Pro, the main competitor to Premiere Pro, currently has nothing in the way of artificial intelligence. Despite rumors that iOS 18 and macOS 15 will introduce AI to several apps, Apple has yet to announce any AI features for Final Cut Pro, so it'll be interesting to see if Final Cut Pro can add similar functionality in the future.
