These features include Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Portrait Light, and more, allowing users to edit and optimize photos more easily.
The expansion is a major move by Google in the photo editing space. Editing tools have been a selling point for Google's high-end Pixel phones and Google One cloud storage service, but with more and more AI editing tools appearing on the market, Google has decided to make these features available to more users for free.
One of the most notable features is Magic Editor, which uses generativeAIPerform more complex photo editing, such as filling in photo blanks, repositioning the subject, and editing the foreground or background. Whereas previously these operations required the use of multiple specialized editing tools, they can now be automated by artificial intelligence.
However, these new features are not immediately available to all users, but will be rolled out gradually starting May 15 and will take a few weeks to complete. There are also certain hardware requirements that need to be met in order to use these tools, such as version 118+ Chromebook Plus on ChromeOS and Android 8.0 or iOS 15 and higher on mobile devices.
