The 38-year-old entrepreneur has also invested in recent companies such as nuclear energy company Helion and longevity technology startup Retro Biosciences.

Forbes said Altman's fortune includes prime real estate in California and Hawaii, and estimated his wealth based on public filings and investigative reporting.

Altman has always insisted that he owns no equity in OpenAI, the company that made him virtually a household name and is valued at around $80 billion.

Last week, Taylor Swift was officially included in the Forbes billionaire list with an estimated fortune of $1.1 billion.
