peacebuilding ChatGPT Here are a few principles and suggestions for using and designing prompts in dialogs. Keeping these principles in mind can help you write better prompts 😁
Principle I: It is recommended that the most up-to-date models be used
If you are using an AI product directly, such as ChatGPT or Midjourney, you don't need to worry about this principle. If you are using it via API or OpenAI Playground, it is recommended that you test it with the latest models first.
Principle 2: Prompts should ideally contain complete information.
This is the factor that has the biggest impact on the outcome. For example if you want the AI to write a poem about OpenAI.
Less effective prompt.
Write a poem about OpenAI.
The answer it generates may then be broad, and a better way to do this is to add more information.
Better prompt.
Write a short inspiring poem about OpenAI, focusing on the recent DALL-E product launch (DALL-E is a text to image ML model) in the style of a {famous poet}
Principle 3: Prompts should be simple and easy to understand, and minimize ambiguity.
This is easier to understand, even if you talk to people and say simple phrases, they will be more likely to understand you, and the same is true for AI. Also, there is a need to reduce ambiguity and use less ambiguous words in the prompt.
For example, like this one is very unclear, what do you mean by not too much more?
The description for this product should be fairly short, a few sentences only, and not too much more.
A better prompt would be something like this, where it's clearer to tell how many sentences to write:
Use a 3 to 5 sentence paragraph to describe this product.
Also note that simple doesn't mean short. Your prompt can be very long, and it doesn't matter if it's longer, as long as your prompt is more descriptive.
Principle 4: Prompt should use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Be sure to pay attention to grammar and spelling, especially when using the English word prompt.
Examples to be added
Principle #5: Start simple first and give the product a little more patience
This last point is sort of my own personal advice. As I mentioned earlier in the example What is 100*100/40*56?
Likewise, if you find that the machine understands it incorrectly, you may want to add some information, you may want to experiment a few more times, and give the AI a little more patience.
