Developersvisit a prostituteGeminiThe good old days are over! Recently, a developer claimed to have received a Gemini API team's email, the email notification states that Google will update the additional terms of service for the Gemini API effective May 2, 2024, and begin charging for API requests made through cloud billing accounts.
This change primarily affects users of the Gemini API provided by Google AI for Developers (referred to as the "Generative Language API" in the Cloud Console) and does not affect users of the Vertex AI Gemini API.
On May 2, 2024, the following changes will take effect.
- The Gemini API and Google AI Studio Terms of Use will be updated. Preview the new terms.
- The Gemini API will introduce pay-per-volume pricing. You will still not be charged for interacting directly with Gemini models in Google AI Studio.
- If you are using the Gemini API from a project with billing disabled, you can still use the Gemini API for free, but you will not be able to take advantage of the benefits associated with the paid plan.
- If you are using the Gemini API from a billing-enabled program, your usage will be subject to pay-per-use pricing tiers and you will be able to take advantage of the benefits associated with paid plans.
For users currently using Gemini API, no action is required if they agree to the new terms of service. If they do not agree to the new terms, they should stop using the Gemini API and Google AI Studio. To avoid incurring fees, users should ensure that they only use API keys from cloud projects with billing disabled by May 2nd. This may mean creating a new, separate project dedicated to the Gemini API with billing disabled, as disabling billing from an existing project may result in the cessation of other billable services.
Google says they understand that these changes may cause some inconvenience to users, but they are committed to fully supporting users with the transition. If users have any questions or need help, they can get support by visiting the developer site.Google appreciates that users are choosing to use the Gemini API and Google AI Studio and looks forward to continuing to provide users with great service.
