According to The Information, Google co-founder Sergey Brin personally called a Google employee who was considering switching to OpenAI, trying to persuade him to stay. Brin's phone offensive and additional salary promises ultimately made the employee decide to stay at Google.
The report pointed out that the war for talent is one of the increasingly fierce trends among technology giants. Currently, the reserve of top AI talents is limited, while the demand for such talents has reached an all-time high. Major technology companies have taken action to poach each other's top talents and offer staggeringly high salaries.
Meta CEO MarkZuckerbergMark Zuckerberg is also reportedly sending private emails to Google DeepMind’s AI researchers in an effort to poach them, and another report from The Information suggests that Meta is even offering candidates positions without an interview.
Zuckerberg announced in January that Meta has a large stockpile of Nvidia H100 chips. Zuckerberg said that by the end of 2024, Meta will have more than 340,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs. In the fierce competition for AI talent, Meta's large chip reserves have also become a weapon for it to recruit and retain talent.
