Tesla CEO ElonMuskOn Tuesday, the manufacturingHumanoid Robot Optimus The cost of a Tesla electric car is only half.
Musk said on social media:“Although humanoid robots are more complex per unit mass, I think the final manufacturing cost will still be less than half of a Tesla car.”
Musk's comments were in response to Sam Korus, head of autonomous driving and robotics research at ARK Invest, who believes that compared to cars, the factors hindering the mass production of humanoid robots are mainly software capabilities rather than manufacturing itself.
In another reply, Musk told a user that the initial price of Optimus will be between $25,000 and $30,000 (currently about 181,000 to 217,000 yuan) and will decrease over time.
In Tesla's fourth-quarter earnings conference call in January this year, Musk expressed optimism about delivering a certain number of Optimus robots next year. "I think we have a certain chance of shipping a certain number of Optimus next year," Musk said, but he also admitted that there are many uncertainties and it is impossible to make an accurate prediction. But he added, "I think Optimus has the potential to become the most valuable product in history."
Tesla launched its humanoid robot in 2021, with the initial goal of having it perform dangerous, repetitive or boring tasks.
Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Jonas previously estimated that the potential market for humanoid robots is huge because they can replace labor around the world. Jonas wrote in a report at the end of December last year that the global labor market is about $30 trillion, accounting for about 30% of global GDP.
