According to market research institutions Canalys According to a recent report, 2024 marks the transition of traditional PCs to AI PC major transformation,It is estimated that global AI PC shipments will reach 48 million units this year, accounting for 18% of total PC shipments.
The agency estimates that global AI PC shipments will exceed 100 million units in 2025, accounting for 40% of total PC shipments; by 2028, global AI PC shipments will reach 205 million units, and the compound annual growth rate between 2024 and 2028 will reach 44%.
The biggest highlight of AI PC is the integration of dedicated artificial intelligence accelerators such as the neural processing unit (NPU), which will unleash new capabilities in productivity, personalization, and energy efficiency, subvert the personal computer market, and bring significant value benefits to suppliers and their partners.
Ishan Dutt, Chief Analyst at Canalys, said:
The widespread use of AI acceleration chips in the PC field will bring about changes. It is estimated that by the end of 2025, the shipment of PCs with AI functions will exceed 150 million units.
AI PCs will enable new and improved user experiences and further increase productivity while providing greater energy efficiency, enhanced security, and reducing the costs associated with running AI workloads.
This emerging PC category opens new areas for innovation for software developers and hardware vendors and provides compelling use cases for customers in consumer, commercial and education scenarios.
Canalys analyst Kieren Jessop said:
The rapid popularity of AI PCs, especially in the commercial sector, has driven the rapid development of high-end products. Canalys estimates that PCs with AI functions will have a premium of 10%-15% compared to similar PCs without integrated NPU.
As adoption surges, more than 50% of PCs priced above $800 will have AI capabilities by the end of 2025, and this proportion will further expand to more than 80% by 2028.
