According to Figure AI, they shared a demonstration video showing how ChatGPT helps this two-legged robot recognize visual objects, plan future actions, and even reflect on its memories. Figure01's camera captures the surrounding environment and sends it to a large language model trained by OpenAI, which then converts the image back to the robot.
The video shows a man asking the robot to take out dirty laundry, wash dishes, and give him something to eat, and the robot is able to complete these tasks. But unlike ChatGPT, Figure01 is more hesitant to answer questions. With the help of OpenAI, Figure01 is now able to have a full conversation with people. Two weeks ago, Figure and OpenAI announced a joint effort to promote robot learning constraints. They are jointly developing artificial intelligence models for the next generation of humanoid robots. The company's founder Brett Adcock said that the robot is not remotely controlled and the video is recorded at 1.0x speed and continues. Regarding the possible sarcastic remarks in the video, it may be a satire on Elon Musk, who shared a video showing the skills of Uber Tesla robots, which were later found to be remotely operated by humans.
Figure AI raised $675 million in May 2023 from investors like Jeff Bezos, Nvidia, Microsoft, and of course OpenAI. Adcock told reporters that they hope to be one of the first groups to bring humanoid robots to market, and of course, these robots can actually be useful and conduct commercial activities.
The new video shows Figure being asked by a man to perform a number of tasks, one of which is asking the robot to give him something to eat on the table. Figure responded: "I see a red apple on a plate in the middle of the table, a drying rack with cups and plates, and you stand nearby with your hands on the table."
The robot uses an onboard camera connected to a large language model to recognize its surroundings.
