Midjourneyup to dateThe launch of the "Character Reference" function provides MJ6 and Niji6 model users with a powerful tool to make character creation more consistent and expressive. The core concept of this function is to help users create the same character content based on a character picture, emphasizing the consistency of the character image.
When using this feature, users only need to add --cref URL after the prompt, and use --cw to adjust the reference strength, ranging from 100 to 0. Under the default setting, a strength of 100 will use the character's face, hairstyle, and clothing information, while a strength of 0 will only focus on the face, which is suitable for scenes that require special processing such as changing clothing or hairstyle. The details are as follows:
• Add --cref URL after the prompt, where URL is a link to the character image. You can use --cw to adjust the reference strength from 100 to 0.
• Strength 100 (--cw100) is the default setting and uses the character's face, hairstyle, and clothing.
• At strength 0 (--cw0) it will focus only on the face (good for changing clothing/hairstyles etc).
This feature is mainly used for characters made with Midjourney images, and is less suitable for real people or photos to avoid distorting their features. Similar to regular image hints, Cref focuses on character features, but its accuracy is limited and it cannot replicate exact details such as dimples, freckles or T-shirt logos.
In addition to the basic functions, users can also use multiple URLs to mix information of multiple images or characters, similar to multiple images or style prompts, to provide more creative inspiration. In addition, this function can also be used in conjunction with --sref to expand the possibilities of creation.
When using on Web Alpha, users simply drag or paste the image into the Imagine column and choose whether to use it as an image hint, style reference or character reference. By Shift+selecting an option, users can use an image for multiple categories, making the creative process more flexible.
Midjourney’s character consistency feature provides users with more creative possibilities, making character images consistent and more personalized, helping creators better express their creativity.
