IndiaThe government announced that it has approved the national level "IndiaAI The AI Mission project aims to achieve the two major goals of "making AI take root in India" and "making AI serve India", with a budget of 103.7192 billion rupees (currently about 9.013 billion yuan).

India announced an investment of 103.7 billion rupees in the field of AI to strengthen the development of large language models

The project will be implemented by the IndiaAI Independent Business Unit (IBD) under Digital India Corporation (DIC) and will include the following components:

  • IndiaAI Computing: A scalable AI computing infrastructure consisting of more than 10,000 GPUs will be built to meet the needs of India's rapidly growing AI startup and research ecosystem. These GPUs will be built through public-private partnerships. In addition, it also includes an AI marketplace to provide AI innovators with AI as a service and pre-trained models, making it a one-stop solution for obtaining key AI innovation resources.

  • IndiaAI Innovation Centre: will work on developing and deploying indigenous Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) and domain specific base models in key areas.

  • IndiaAI Dataset Platform: Will simplify the process of acquiring high-quality non-personal datasets for AI innovation. A unified data platform will be developed to provide a one-stop solution for Indian startups and researchers to seamlessly access non-personal datasets.

  • IndiaAI Application Development Program: The program will target problem statements from central ministries, state government departments and other agencies to promote the application of AI in key areas. It will focus on developing/scaling/promoting impactful AI solutions that have the potential to catalyze large-scale socio-economic transformation.

  • IndiaAI Future Skills: aims to lower the barriers to entry into the AI industry and increase AI courses in undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs. In addition, data and AI labs will be set up in Tier II and Tier III cities in India to teach basic courses.

  • IndiaAI Startup Funding: This concept aims to support and accelerate deep tech AI startups and provide them with streamlined access to funding to enable them to realize their future AI projects.

  • Safe and Trustworthy AI Capabilities: To raise industry awareness of the need to provide appropriate safeguards for the responsible development, deployment, and adoption of AI, the Safe and Trustworthy AI pillar will support the implementation of responsible AI projects, including the development of local tools and frameworks, self-assessment checklists for innovators, and other guidance and governance frameworks.

According to IT industry body Nasscom, India's artificial intelligence market is expected to reach US$17 billion (currently about RMB 122.4 billion) by 2027, with a compound annual growth rate of 25%~35% from 2024 to 2027.
