becauseJapanWith the aging of the population becoming increasingly serious, the elderly have become one of the main victims of telecommunications fraud. Criminals often pretend to be relatives of the elderly, claiming that they are in trouble and it is inconvenient for them to show up, and then instruct the elderly to use ATM machines to complete transfers over the phone.
According to CCTV News, the Japanese police have installed a AI recognition system, to warn potential victims.
To put it simply: when AI recognizes that a user is using an ATM while on the phone, it will automatically play a warning video in which the police officer played by singer Keita Tachibana points his finger at the user and says, "Warning! This call is a scam! Hang up now!"
Keita Tachibana is a former vocalist of Japanese idol boy band W-inds and a current member of the National Police Agency's SOS47 celebrity group, which aims to raise awareness of tokushu sagi (a general term for telephone-type scams).
This technology is a demonstration experiment conducted by the National Police Agency of Japan in cooperation with Japan Post Bank. It uses artificial intelligence to detect people who make calls when using ATM machines and display warnings, reducing the possibility of bank accounts being mistakenly frozen compared to general identification solutions.
