appleToday, Apple held its annual shareholders meeting. At the meeting, Apple CEO TimCook(Tim Cook) talked about Apple againAI Cook said the company will "break new ground" in generative artificial intelligence by 2024, emphasizing: "We believe this will bring transformative opportunities to users."
In recent months, Cook has spoken out about Apple's AI ambitions several times. Back in November, he said Apple was "investing heavily" in the field of AI. In February, he said the company was "investing a lot of time and energy" in the development of AI and would announce more details in the second half of the year.
According to multiple rumors, Apple will add new generative AI features to the upcoming iOS 18 and plans to use AI to improve the functionality of many built-in iOS apps.
Aside from Cook's comments on AI, the shareholder meeting was pretty much business as usual. According to Bloomberg, shareholders rejected a proposal that would have required Apple to publish an AI transparency report, which would have detailed whether Apple's use of AI is ethical.
Apple's board and executive compensation plans were approved, but no shareholder proposals were passed. It is worth mentioning that former US Vice Presidents Al Gore and James Bell will retire from Apple's board of directors, and former Aerospace CEO Wanda Austin will join the board.
