TeslaThe company shared a new video on its social media accounts on Saturday, showing the Optimus Humanoid RobotThe video shows the robot walking around a test field, with the tongue-in-cheek caption “Daily step goal achieved.”
Compared to the video released a few weeks ago, the giant arm shown this time seems to be a newer or more complete version, with a steadier pace and smoother movements while walking.
A few weeks ago, Tesla CEO Elon Musk released a video showing the walking ability of the second-generation Optimus prototype robot. Compared with the current version, the new generation of robots is more streamlined. In addition, Tesla also posted 61 job openings related to the Optimus project earlier this month, including manufacturing and testing engineers and other related positions.
Tesla announced the Optimus project in August 2021. Musk said last month that the company could start delivering these robots as early as next year. Optimus is designed to help humans complete dangerous, repetitive and boring work, and its first mass-produced version will be used in Tesla factories.
Optimus has made significant progress since the project was announced, with recent updates showing the prototype robot is now able to fold laundry, maintain good balance, move its neck, arms and legs, and complete tasks that require fine motor skills and discrimination, such as sorting blocks into groups.
Musk also said in December that he expects Optimus to be able to thread a needle within the next year. Regarding the cost of the humanoid robot, initial claims said that once Tesla starts selling it, its price could be less than $20,000 (currently about 144,000 yuan).
