According to Reuters,USAThe Justice Department on Thursday named its first official focused on AI. Jonathan Meyer, a Princeton University professor who studies technology and law(Jonathan Mayer)Will serve as Chief Technology Advisor,Chief AI Officer.
Jonathan Meyer will lead a new commission on law enforcement and civil rights officials.The commission will advise the attorney general and others on the ethics and effectiveness of AI systems, and work hard to recruit more technical experts to join the department.

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement:The Department of Justice must keep pace with changing technology, in fulfilling our mission to uphold the rule of law, ensure national security, and protect the rights of our citizens.”
In a speech in the UK last week, US Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said:The Justice Department is already using artificial intelligence to track the source of opioids and other illegal drugs, analyzing tips submitted to the FBI and compiling evidence collected during its investigation of the January 6, 2021, raid on the U.S. Capitol.
Monaco said the technology helps the United States detect and disrupt terrorist plots and hostile actions by U.S. adversaries. But she said the department is also concerned that it could amplify existing biases and create new opportunities for cybercriminals. In addition, she said in a speech at Oxford University that "every new technology is a double-edged sword.But artificial intelligence may be the sharpest weapon yet. "
