April 2 News.Meta AIHead of Research Joelle Pineau announced on April 1, local time that she will leave the company on May 30th. Joelle Pineau joined Meta in 2017 and currently serves as VP of AI Research and head of FAIR, the fundamental AI research unit led by renowned AI expert Yann LeCun.
Pino's departure comes at a time when Meta is ramping up its investment in artificial intelligence. The company is reportedly planning to invest $65 billion (note: current exchange rate is about 4727.82 billion yuan) in AI infrastructure by 2025 to further advance the technology.
In an interview with Bloomberg, a Meta spokeswoman said the company has not yet identified Pino's immediate successor, but is actively looking for a suitable candidate. Last year, Meta made changes to the company's organizational structure, realigning its AI research department to report to chief product officer Chris Cox.
As for Pinault's own next steps, she said she would take a break from her job before embarking on an undisclosed "new adventure".
