March 26, 2012 - Technology media outlet The Information published a blog post today (March 26) reporting thatGoogleThe Company is committed to avoiding and Gemini Competition, Split Pixie Project.Part of it translates into a "screenshot app" for Pixel phones, and part of it is incorporated into the Gemini feature.
1AI reported in December 2023 that Google is planning to develop a new AI assistant for the Pixel 9 series of phones, based on its own Gemini Nano model, that will be exclusive to Pixel devices, called "Pixie," and will go beyond Google Assistant to enable cross-application task execution. Pixie" will be the exclusive assistant for Pixel devices, with features that go beyond Google Assistant and enable cross-application task execution.
And the latest reports say that Google CEO Pichai asked for a reorientation after a leadership assessment to avoid Pixie competing with the all-platform Gemini. The project was then "split in two":
- Pixel Screenshot app: integrates some Pixie capabilities to enhance the localization experience.
- Gemini Add-On: Remaining technology to enhance Gemini's multitasking capabilities.
Despite the failure of Pixie, Google may develop "Pixel Sense" for the Pixel 10, and tech media outlet 9to5Google speculates that the tool may weaken the assistant attributes and focus on specific scene functions.
