March 20, 2012 - According to Wired magazineNvidia(Nvidia) hasAcquisitionSan Diego-based startup Gretel.Gretel develops a platform for generating synthetic AI training dataThe exact terms of the acquisition have not been made public, but the purchase price is reported to be in the nine figures, exceeding Gretel's recent valuation of $320 million (note: current exchange rate is about Rs. 2,314 million).
Founded in 2019, Gretel was co-founded by Alex Watson, Laszlo Bock, John Myers, and Ali Golshan, who serves as the company's CEO. The company provides clients with synthetic data solutions by fine-tuning models, adding proprietary technology, and packaging these models for sale.
Prior to its acquisition by NVIDIA, Gretel had raised more than $67 million in venture capital from a number of investment firms including Anthos Capital, Greylock and Moonshots Capital.
Upon completion of this acquisition, theGretel and its approximately 80 employees to be integrated into NVIDIAIts technology will be integrated into NVIDIA's suite of generative AI services for developers.
Currently, as real-world data sources are drying up, tech giants including Microsoft, Meta, OpenAI and Anthropic have begun to utilize synthetic data to train their flagship AI models. NVIDIA's acquisition of Gretel will undoubtedly provide a strong complement to its technical strength and market competitiveness in the field of generative AI.
