Counterpoint Research reported that although the end of the year holiday failed to boost shipments, but overall, the PC market decline momentum has slowed down in 2023, the annual shipments fell 14% year-on-year. industry insiders generally believe that the PC market is expected to recover in the first half of 2024.

The decline in shipments in 2023 was primarily due to weakness in both the commercial and consumer segments, in addition to the fact that some new product releases originally scheduled for the second half of 2023 were actually delayed until 2024.

In terms of brand rankings, Lenovo held the top spot with 16.1 million units shipped, up 4% year-on-year; HP ranked second with 13.9 million units shipped, up 5% year-on-year; and Dell experienced a 9% decline, shipping 9.9 million units. Apple shipped a modest 2% to 6.3 million units, while Asus slipped 9% to 4.3 million units.

It is worth noting thatAI (AI) has become an important trend in the PC market. Both cell phone giants like Samsung and PC manufacturers have made AI features a highlight of their products.

AI will play a major role in the PC market in 2024 and 2025, according to a report by Counterpoint Research. New CPUs from Intel and AMD are designed for next-generation AI PCs, and PC makers are expected to launch new AI-enabled products in 2024, making a bigger impact on shipments.

The report states, "We will see more vendors launching AI PC products after CES, but the major switchover wave is expected to come in the second half of 2024. We expect 50% laptop sales to be AI-relevant by 2025, requiring at least an NPU or AI gas pedal in addition to mainstream CPUs and GPUs."

All in all, although the PC market is still in the doldrums in 2023, the downtrend is gradually slowing down, and the rise of AI features brings new hope for future recovery. 2024 is expected to see the market rebound in the first half of the year, and shipments will further increase in the second half of the year with the launch of more new AI PC products.
