The creative and media industries have reportedly joined forces to launch the Make It Fair initiative, a campaign against the government's proposal that would allow AI companies toNot authorizedIn the case of the use of a device that is subject tocopyrightProtected works for modeling training.
The campaign website, sponsored by the News Media Association (NMA), writes, "Tech companiesUtilize creative content (e.g., news, books, music, movies, photography, visual arts, etc.)to train their generative AI models. But publishers and creators say that without proper controls, transparency, or fair payments, the practice is unfair and threatens their livelihoods."
The NMA's members include The Sun, The Daily Mail, The Daily Mirror and The Guardian, among others, as well as regional newspapers in the UK and thedigital media.
Under the new proposal, developers will be able toWithout authorization or paymentIn some cases, AI models are trained using the work of artists on the Internet, unless the creator voluntarily opts out. However, many artists don't agree with this approach. On Monday, 1,000 local musicians released a "silent album" called Is This What We Want? to protest the planned change in copyright law.
