February 7 News.GoogleThis follows the introduction of an AI-based Magic Editor retouching feature for its Google Photos photo app, which allows users to make changes to details in photos using prompts in supported devices.
Google now says that starting this week, the company will introduce SynthID hidden watermarking technology for corresponding apps, making it easy to identify if a photo has been modified by the Magic Editor AI feature.
SynthID is a technology developed by Google's DeepMind division that recognizes and adds hidden digital watermarks to AI-generated content, 1AI has learned.Corresponding watermarks are imperceptible to the human eye, do not affect image quality, and cannot be removed by clearing metadata. The watermark can still be detected even after modifications such as cropping, adding filters or changing colors.
Google says that when the SynthID hidden watermarking technology goes live, users will be able to open images in Chrome and see if they have a SynthID watermark in the "About Image" feature to recognize how authentic they are.
