OpenAI o1 inference model free, Microsoft Copilot opens "deep thinking" AI feature

January 31, 2011 - Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, announced in a tweet on the X platform yesterday, January 30, that all Microsoft Copilot Users are now free to use OpenAI of the o1 inference model.

This means that the Think Deeper feature will no longer be limited to paid Copilot Pro users, and all users will be able to take advantage of this feature for more complex multi-step structured reasoning.

Suleyman emphasized the scale of the rollout: "We're opening up Deep Thinking to all Copilot users for free today. Now everyone can use OpenAI's o1 inference model in Copilot for free."

He also impliedMicrosoftFurther AI extensions are being planned: "We have many more projects in the pipeline that I can't wait to tell you about."

The Deep Thinking feature debuted in October 2024 at Copilot Labs, an experimental environment where Microsoft tests AI capabilities. The feature utilizes OpenAI's o1 model, which focuses on chain-of-thought reasoning and aims to improve the depth and accuracy of responses.

Note: Unlike the quick, superficial responses generated by standard AI, the Deep Thinking feature allows Copilot to process complex queries in multiple steps to provide more structured and logically consistent answers.

By clicking on the "Think Deep" button in Copilot, the AI analyzes the question and generates a well-reasoned response in about 30 seconds, and Suleyman highlights real-world applications for this feature, such as detailed project planning and in-depth research on a variety of topics.
