Adobe announced a series of new generative AI tools designed to automate labor-intensive production tasks such as batch editing images and translating video presentations. The most notable of these is the "Firefly Bulk Create" application, which is designed to automate labor-intensive production tasks such as batch editing images and translating video presentations. The tool allows users to quickly resize up to 10,000 images or replace all backgrounds with a single click, eliminating the need for tedious sheet-by-sheet editing.
Developed by integrating several of Adobe's Firefly-based developer APIs, the tool is designed to be easy to use by designers with little programming experience.Bulk Create is available in beta today and is split into two separate tools within Adobe's Firefly web app:"Remove Background" and "Resize"The former is intuitive. The former is intuitive -- users can upload image files from their computers, Dropbox, or Adobe Experience Manager and quickly remove the background.
According to 1AI, the tool works on any image, but is especially useful for product marketers. In addition to removing the background, users can set the tool to replace the background with a specific image or color (defined via HEX code) to produce a variant of the image that can be further edited. Currently, file batches can be saved in PNG or JPEG format, and Adobe says it will add support for Photoshop PSD files in the future.
The "Resize" tool offers a range of preset options for common banner sizes on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. The tool utilizes generative AI to stretch the background of an image to fit the desired size, but the results in the demo were less than ideal, with noticeable distortion. Still, for images with simple backgrounds, the tool can help designers avoid the hassle of manually adjusting marketing materials for each platform. While platforms such as Canva and Adobe Express offer similar functionality, Bulk Create's strength lies in its one-click operation.
Adobe also plans to launch new Firefly Services developer APIs in the coming weeks to help developers accelerate their video and print production processes. Among the features are "Dubbing and Lip Sync," which translates and edits video and audio into lip sync effects in 14 different languages, and new InDesign tools that automatically format text and images for print and digital media using predefined templates. Also available this month is a beta version of "digital avatars" based on text descriptions and voice recordings for video presentations and product explanations.
It's worth noting that editing 10,000 images in a batch requires powerful computing resources and is costly, and Adobe says that these new tools will be charged on a "usage" basis, meaning that users may need to purchase the Adobe Firefly Premium Plan, which offers generative credits, to access these features. This means that users may need to purchase the Adobe Firefly Premium Plan, which offers generative credits, in order to use these features.
