According to Aitomatic, the semiconductor industry is facing a serious loss of expertise. As more and more senior professionals retire, their wealth of experience and knowledge is lost, leading to a serious talent gap for many companies. In response to this problem, LLM, which specializes in training for the needs of the semiconductor industry, has been identified as an effective way to help new engineers quickly acquire the necessary information to remain competitive.
SemiKong is built on Meta's Llama 3.1 LLM platform and recently released its 70 billion parameter version, which was developed by Aitomatic in conjunction with other partners in the newly formed AI Alliance, including Meta, AMD, and IBM, with Aitomatic's DXA system serving as the cornerstone for SemiKong deployments. DXA, or Domain-Expert Agents, is Aitomatic's way of connecting smaller LLM agents to the central SemiKong 70B "hive". The DXA can be customized to the specific needs of a client company by training it on the company's technology library or the experience of its expert engineers. The trained DXA is then deployed by the core SemiKong to automate development tasks or provide chatbot-like communication with engineers and workers.
With its current 70 billion parameter version and a smaller DXA agent based on SemiKong, the utility of this LLM in the semiconductor space has far surpassed that of general-purpose AI models.1AI notes that theSemiKong claims to reduce time-to-market for new chip designs by 20-301 TP3T and increase first-time production success by 201 TP3T, and claims to reduce the learning curve for new engineers by up to 501 TP3T.
SemiKong is one of the first fruits of collaboration within the emerging AI Alliance, which was announced in December 2023. One of a number of corporate alliances aimed at countering NVIDIA's dominance of the tech industry, the AI Alliance's members include major corporations such as IBM and AMD, as well as research institutions such as Yale University and the University of Tokyo.
