According to a Dec. 22 news report in the South China Morning Post, theChinese University of Hong Kong(CUHK) researchers have developed a new basicArtificial Intelligence Modelbe able tohelp resolveophthalmologicclinical missionThis is especially true for disease screening and diagnosis. As the use of generative AI in medicine gradually increases, this technology is expected to have a broader impact.
The new model, called "VisionFM", is available in theExcels in diagnosing and predicting a wide range of ophthalmic diseases, the researchers say the model may be widely used in more clinical scenarios as the amount of data increases. The relevant study was published last month in the journal NEJM AI.
Research has shown that VisionFM has a significant impact onDiagnose 12 eye diseases as accurately as, or more accurately than, a mid-level ophthalmologist. In particular, the model outperformed the first basic model in ophthalmology, RETFound, in predicting glaucoma progression.
The launch of VisionFM coincides with the growing interest in generative AI in the medical community, where more and more researchers and healthcare professionals are currently exploring the potential of generative AI in improving healthcare.
According to 1AI, Hong Kong's Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Research (CAIR) earlier this year launched AI models that can be used to assist doctors in their work, aiming to assist surgeons toPerform surgical planning and generate diagnostic reportsThe model is based on Meta Platforms' Llama 2 open source big language model. The model is based on Meta Platforms' Llama 2 open-source large language model and has been put into use in hospitals such as the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou and the Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong.
