Microsoftis working with nonprofit organizations, universities, and government,OpenAI and other technology companies to collaborate and participate inHarvardThe Institutional Data Initiative (IDI) of the Law School Library and the CORE project led by the UK's Open University, thereby increasing the amount of data accessible to the public and enhancing the diversity of data sources, cultures, languages, and subjects, ultimately benefiting all.
1AIA brief introduction to the IDI and CORE programs:
Institutional Data Initiative (IDI): IDI is committed to unlocking and refining high-quality data, the first of which comes from the collections of the Harvard Law School Library. The goal is for AI solutions to better reflect and benefit communities, incorporating key information from cultures and worldviews across generations into AI innovations.
CORE Program: The CORE program is dedicated to opening up academic knowledge globally. Microsoft will help provide machine access to academic research content and develop ethical ways to use academic content to develop artificial intelligence.
Burton Davis, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of Microsoft's Intellectual Property Group, emphasized that broad and varied access to data is critical to AI innovation, not only for large companies like Microsoft, but for researchers and startups as well.
Data diversity can boost AI performance, improve safety, and minimize bias.
Microsoft's partnership with IDI and CORE will provide all developers with more accessible, diverse, and high-quality data to promote the inclusive development of AI, which will ultimately benefit all of humanity. By opening up data, AI can better reflect the world's multiculturalism and avoid bias, which is the core goal of this partnership.
