Google previewed a new version of its Google Assistant voice assistant back in August, which combines Gemini's generative AI technology to answer a wider range of knowledge-based questions. The AI also has memory, allowing users to ask follow-up questions and even interrupt the Assistant in the middle of an answer.
But the audio in question still retains the traditional Google Assistant to handle smart home controls and music playback requests, with a tone playing first to differentiate when the speaker intelligently switches between different assistants.
1AI refers to Google's support documentation to learn that Gemini enhancements are currently only available to participating Google Home public beta users. These users will need to subscribe to the Nest Aware service and actively choose to enable "experimental AI features".. If users are eligible to participate in the beta test, they will be able to turn on the feature in their settings once they receive a notification from the Google Home app.
