According to Reuters, on November 29thItalydataProtection Directorate (GPDP) has warned local publisher GEDI that it should not beTheir personal data files are shared with ChatGPT's parent company OpenAIThereforeIt may be a violation of the European Union.The Alliance's relevant privacy protection legislation.

Note: GEDI announced a strategic partnership with OpenAI in September, with plans to make its Italian-language news content available to ChatGPT subscribers.GEDI publishes two major Italian dailies - La Repubblica and Turin News.

In a statement, GPDP said, "The digital archives of newspapersContains the stories of thousands of people, which involves information, details, and even extremely sensitive personal data, if theWithout strict and careful licensingAnd being used by third parties for AI training is unacceptable." If GEDI were to disclose personal data from its archives to OpenAI under the agreement it signed with the latter, it would potentially be in breach of EU regulations, leading to a range of consequences, including possible penalties.
Representatives from GEDI and OpenAI have not yet responded to the matter.
