November 29th.Fudan UniversityThe official website of the Office of Academic Affairs shows that on November 28, Fudan University released the "Fudan University on undergraduatethesis(Design) in the use of AI Provisions on Tools (Trial) (hereinafter referred to as "Provisions").
The AI tools referred to in the Regulation include generative artificial intelligence ("GenAI" or "Generative AI") and artificial intelligence-assisted tools ("AI-assisted tools"). ("AI-assisted tools").
The scope and principles of permissible use include, "With the consent of the instructor and when the content generated by the AI tool does not affect the examination of the student's ability to innovate and other skills in the thesis (design), the author may use the AI tool within the following scope:Literature search and organization, secondary creative chart type recommendation and assisted charting, AI tool assistance for non-innovative methods, and reference formatting.”
Prohibited uses include:
- The use of AI tools for research proposal design, innovative methodology design, algorithm (model) framework construction, thesis (design) structure design, research (design) topic selection, research (design) significance and innovative summary, research hypothesis formulation, data analysis, result analysis and discussion, and conclusion summary is prohibited;
- It is prohibited to use AI tools to generate or alter raw data, original or experimental result pictures, images and illustrations in the undergraduate thesis (design); it is prohibited to use AI tools directly to generate the body text, acknowledgements or other components of the undergraduate thesis (design);
- It is prohibited to use AI tools for language touch-ups and translations; it is prohibited for defense members and evaluation experts to use any AI tools to evaluate students' undergraduate thesis (design);
- The use of any AI tools and the uploading of any data and images to the AI platform are prohibited for undergraduate theses (designs) that involve confidential content.
The Regulation also states that when using AI toolsThe name and version number of the AI tool used must be clearly disclosed in the Undergraduate Thesis (Design) Commitment Form.; the timing and specific purpose for which it was used; the content generated or advice provided by the AI tool; the specific portion of the dissertation in which the AI tool was used, such as the Methods section or the Literature Review section; and relevant and important materials prior to the processing of the AI tool must be retained for inspection and questioning of the student's use of the AI tool by the instructor or reviewing experts.
