Playing some time ago Midjourney When I discovered a new feature - image editing, especially the ability to easily change the background, I felt super convenient and couldn't help but share it with you.
Normally, when we use Midjourney to generate images, there may be cases where the background and the theme don't quite match.
For example, if you want to make the background of a figure or an object more atmospheric, or if you want to adapt it to a particular scene, it turns out that this kind of thing has to be done with complex software, which is a cumbersome and error-prone process.
But now, with this new image editing feature from Midjourney, changing backgrounds has become much easier.
Above is an image of one of my outdoor power products, I just need to upload it and write the cue word to generate the appropriate background.
Upload product images and automatically generate backgrounds
First and foremost, the most pleasant surprise for me was the fact that you can now upload product images and generate suitable backgrounds by typing in some simple prompt words.
For example, if you have a product image and you want to place it in a natural scene, you just tell Midjourney words like "forest" or "meadow" and it will automatically generate a background that meets the requirements.
This way saves me a lot of time, especially when the background needs to match the temperament of the product, and the AI's judgment is really good, but this is more random, and the background may not harmonize with the product.
This is where better results are achieved by more cue word restrictions, such as this one
A photorealistic image of a portable power bank on a camping table beside a warm campfire in an American wilderness. The glowing fire provides soft The glowing fire provides soft illumination on the power bank, and a tent is pitched in the background, with towering mountains in the distance.
Erase/restore function for easy handling of details
If there are some parts of your uploaded images that need to be modified, or if the background needs to be adjusted, Midjourney's Erase/Restore feature comes in handy. You can directly erase the unwanted parts or restore some missing areas.
This is especially helpful for detail adjustments to make the whole picture look more harmonious.
Character consistency and style references to maintain a sense of wholeness
If you do a lot of creative work, you may have noticed that different picture styles or character consistency can sometimes become impossible to grasp. Luckily, Midjourney's new feature retains the previous cref, sref functionality to help maintain character uniformity and style consistency.
Whether you want to keep the style of your characters consistent or have a specific tonal requirement for the overall picture, you can use these settings to control the effect more precisely.
You can also use reference images as a guide to help the AI understand the subject matter you want, by using the "padding" feature in Discord.
Re-edit the card draw for flexible adjustments
Another nice feature to use is to re-edit the card draw. You can make small adjustments to an already generated image or to the original image that
Modify some details directly. For example, if you feel that the background color of a certain place is not right, or the position of the character is not ideal enough, you can just modify it directly on the basis of the original image. This makes post-adjustment easier and avoids the hassle of re-generating the entire image.
Conclusion
These new features make photo editing easier and more flexible. Whether it's background replacement, detailing, or keeping a consistent creative style, Midjourney offers many useful tools to help us improve our creativity.
