World's first: NVIDIA and SoftBank test-run "AI+5G" telecom network, claiming $5 in revenue from $1 investment

NVIDIA has revealed that SoftBank is utilizing the NVIDIA AI Aerial Accelerated Computing Platform, theSuccessfully piloted the world's first AI and 5G integrated telecommunication networkThe company said, "This is a breakthrough in computing that opens up AI revenue streams potentially worth billions of dollars for telecom operators."

Junichi Miyagawa, President and CEO of SoftBank, said, "Society is undergoing a major transformation as countries and regions around the world accelerate the adoption of AI for social and economic growth. Through our longstanding partnership with NVIDIA, SoftBank is leading this transformation. With our extremely robust AI infrastructure and 'AITRAS', a new distributed AI-RAN solution that is reshaping 5G networks for AI, we will accelerate innovation across the country and around the world."

According to the report, SoftBank worked closely with NVIDIA to achieve a technological milestone -- the development of a new telecom network that can run both AI and 5G workloads.Known in the industry as Artificially Intelligent Radio Access Networks (AI-RAN). This new infrastructure is supported by the telecom industry's ecosystem as it enables operators to transform base stations from cost centers to AI revenue-generating assets.

SoftBank demonstrated that its AI-RAN solution has achieved carrier-grade 5G performance through an outdoor trial in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. And the ability to utilize excess capacity in the network to run AI inference workloads simultaneously.

NVIDIA and Softbank estimate thatFor every $1 invested in AI-RAN infrastructure, telecom carriers receive approximately $5(IT Home Note: Currently about Rs 36.2) in AI inference revenue. Taking into account OPEX and CAPEX costs, SoftBank estimates that it can get a return of up to 2,19% per AI-RAN server added to its infrastructure.
