First, GitHub Copilot will be coming to Windows Terminal. by combining it with the Terminal Chat feature in the Windows Terminal Canary release, theDevelopersCommand suggestions and explanations from Copilot can be obtained directly within the terminal. This feature is available to all Copilot Personal, Business and Enterprise Edition users.
Meanwhile, GitHub Copilot for Xcode has also received a public preview release. This will allow Apple developers using Xcode to enjoy the same intelligent coding assistance as other integrated development environment (IDE) users. In the public preview, Copilot for Xcode offers the following features:
- Code Completion: Copilot is seamlessly embedded in Xcode, providing real-time suggestions as you type.
- Multi-language support: Support for programming languages commonly used in the Apple ecosystem, such as Swift and Objective-C, ensures that all developers can benefit from Copilot's intelligent assistance.
- Multi-line suggestions: By default, Copilot displays single-line suggestions. Hold down the Option key and press Option + Tab to receive the full multi-line suggestion.
- Content Filtering: Copilot provides advanced filters to screen out harmful or inappropriate content suggestions, ensuring that all code meets professional standards and fosters a safe and respectful coding environment.
- Block blocking code block suggestions that match public code: You can optionally activate the duplicate detection filter, which blocks code block suggestions that match public code on GitHub.
In addition to Windows Terminal and Xcode support, GitHub has brought other new features to Copilot. The new Copilot Access Bing feature enables web search in VS Code, Visual Studio, and Copilot Chat in GitHub.com. This makes it easy for developers to discuss recent events, new developments, trends, and technologies, such as asking, "What's the latest version of Typescript?" or "When is the next major Node.js update coming?" Currently, this feature is only available to Copilot Business and Enterprise Edition users.
