Technology media outlet The Verge published a blog post today (October 25) thatReports said OpenAI Scheduled to launch this December under the codename "Orion"The new frontierModel.
The media outlet reported that "Orion" has adopted a different release model from GPT-4o and o1, and will not be widely distributed through ChatGPT, but will first license companies that work closely with it to help them build their own products and features.
The source also said that Microsoft's internal engineers are preparing to host "Orion" on Azure as early as November.
While within OpenAI, Orion is seen as the successor to GPT-4, it's not clear if the company will refer to it externally as GPT-5.
OpenAI executives have revealed that Orion is more than 100 times more powerful than GPT-4. In September, Tadao Nagasaki, CEO of OpenAI Japan, said that while GPT-3 and GPT-4 were relatively close in performance, GPT Next is expected to be a bigger leap forward, with a 100-fold increase in performance.
OpenAI's long-term goal is to combine its Large Language Models (LLMs), which may eventually lead to more powerful models known as Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
