According to a Reuters report today,FoxconnBenjamin Ting, Senior Vice President, announced at 2024 Hon Hai Technology Day thatFoxconn is planning toMexicoBuilding the world's largestNvidia GB200 chipmanufacturing plant, though he did not disclose exactly where the facility would be built.
Foxconn, currently a major supplier to Apple, is expanding its business to make other electronics. As demand soars for AI startups to train big models, which require a lot of computing power, Foxconn is looking to compete for new markets, and hitching a ride on NVIDIA's giant wheel is a natural first choice.
As reported in March, NVIDIA unveiled its most powerful AI-accelerated card, the GB200, at the GTC 2024 developer conference, which utilizes the next-generation AI graphics processor architecture, Blackwell, and is etched using TSMC's 4-nanometer (4NP) process.
Liu Yangwei, Chairman of Hon Hai (Foxconn's parent company), said at the event. The company's supply chain is ready for the AI revolution. He spoke of Foxconn's advanced manufacturing capabilities, which include key technologies such as liquid cooling and heat sinks, which are used in the infrastructure necessary to manufacture NVIDIA's GB200 products. The new plant is being built in Mexico, where the capacity will be "very, very large".
