September 30, 2011 - The Guardian reported on 25 September that mediaartists Refik Anadol has announced that it will beUSALos Angeles opens world's first artificial intelligenceart museumThe museum will highlight "Human Imagination and the Creative Potential of Machines"The Intersection.
Named "Dataland" and scheduled to open in late 2025, the pavilion, which is adjacent to the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Broad Museum, and the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will create a space for AI art in one of Los Angeles' most prestigious cultural venues.
Refik Anadol promises that the museum will promote "ethical AI" and use renewable energy. With Dataland, he and his team of artists and technologists hope to reinvent the museum for the age of AI, while highlighting the innovative work of digital artists and providing space for ongoing scientific and technological research. "AI is not a tool.AI Beyond Tools. Literally, never in human history have we had intelligence as technology."
Anadol believes that artistsBuild your own AI toolsSimply using tools created by others is not enough. The museum will focus on datasets collected "ethically," such as his Large Nature Model, an open-source generative AI tool built from data shared by the Smithsonian Institution, the British Museum of Natural History, and other prominent institutions.
The AI Art Museum will featurefor-profit enterpriseform of launch, though Refik Anadol says he's willing to move in the direction of a nonprofit if he can get patrons for his project. "AI art is a whole new art form that has never been explored before, and it's just getting started."
