Runway a New York-based artificial intelligence startup and a well-known name in AI-generated video technology, has launched an advanced video model for its API. This will enable developers and companies to integrate Runway's generative AI capabilities into their own applications and services.
The API, which currently has limited access, offers Runway's Gen-3 Alpha Turbo model - a faster variant of its flagship Gen-3 Alpha product. Pricing starts at 1 cent per credit, and it takes 5 credits to generate a one-second video.
The new API offers two main plans: a "Build" plan for individuals and teams who want to incorporate video generation into internal projects, and an "Enterprise" plan for large organizations aiming to embed the technology into consumer-facing products. Pricing starts at 1 cent per credit, with generated video costing 5 credits per second.
An interesting requirement for using the Runway API is that the product must prominently display the "Powered by Runway" badge, which links back to the company website. Runway syas this to ensure transparency and to help users understand the source of the technology being generated.
Runway's API release makes it one of the first AI companies to offer a video generation model via an API. The last year has seen increasing competition in the generative video space. Tech giants like OpenAI, Google, and Adobe are all developing their own video generation models, with OpenAI's Sora expected to debut this fall. Other startups like Luma Labs and Pika are also growing in popularity.
