Tech outlet testingcatalog (Aug. 30) reported thatAI search site Perplexity is testing a new internal payment system, PPLX, which displays the product card in the Discover stream.Provides a summary of the product and the option to "purchase through PPLX".
The relevant screenshots are attached below, where you can see that these product cards contain detailed information such as product reviews and tips, and users can easily select the quantity and checkout via a button that redirects to a third-party payment provider, routinely completing the purchase in just two clicks.
This approach is closer to affiliate marketing, where Perplexity can earn commissions by directing users to purchase products. The first time a user clicks on this new button, he or she is prompted to fill in relevant payment information, which is tied to a personal account, and subsequent clicks enable the user to complete the purchase without jumping off the page, just two clicks away.
Perplexity was founded in August 2022, with funding from OpenAI, Meta's internal AI leader, and others. Perplexity did not develop its own large language model, but rather chose to fine-tune the interfaces of large language models such as GPT-3.5, aiming to use AI technology to create a "Google search" without advertisements.
Jen-Hsun Huang said in a media interview in March that "I generally use Perplexity, and I use it almost every day."
