AMD Today, it was officially announced that it has completed the largest private AI laboratory in Europe Silo AI ofAcquisition,The transaction amount is approximately US$665 million (currently RMB 4.773 billion), paid in full in cash. At this point, Silo AI's scientists and engineers officially joined the AMD family.
AMD's emphasis on the field of AI is self-evident. This acquisition is an important step in its strategic layout, aiming to further strengthen the company's leadership in AI and related technologies. Like technology giants such as Google, Meta, and Apple, AMD is also actively transforming to AI, but the difference is that AMD's investment in this field is relatively late.
Vamsi Boppana, senior vice president of AMD’s Accelerated Computing Group (AIG), said: “AI is our top strategic goal. We will continue to increase our investment in talent and software capabilities to support growing customer deployments and roadmaps.” He also emphasized that the Silo AI team has rich experience in AI model development and integration, especially in large language models. These capabilities will significantly enhance customers’ experience in building high-performance AI solutions on AMD platforms.
Silo AI's customers include industry giants such as Allianz, Philips, Rolls-Royce and Unilever. This acquisition not only ensures that Silo AI continues to use AMD chips and technology, but will also help AMD advance the development of open source generative AI training and application software.
