Reuters (August 9) reports.MuskIts X The platform agreed not to use some of the EU user data to train its AI Chatbot.
An Irish court said Thursday thatSocial media platforms X has agreed to temporarily refrain from using personal data collected from EU users to train its AI systems until they have opted to withdraw their consent.
Ireland's Data Protection Commission this week sought an order suspending or restricting Company X from processing user data to develop, train or improve its artificial intelligence systems.
IT House reported in July that X users found that they had "automatically selected" their posts and interactions with xAI's Grok chatbot for "training and fine-tuning" the xAI system, a data-sharing practice that was carried out without the users' explicit prior consent. This is data sharing without the user's explicit prior consent. However, users can only set this up in the desktop version of X, and there is currently no way to opt out via the mobile app.
The Irish Data Protection Commission, which enforces European Union privacy laws, said it has been "dealing with X for several months" over its plans to use user data to create AI systems. The regulator said it had sent questions to the company as recently as last Thursday about issues such as "user transparency".
